1. Chemicals: Use the safest chemicals for the environment and the correct measure for the job in hand. Where appropriate use alternative technology.

  2. Consumables: Use the closest cost-effective suppliers / distributers for your consumables, e.g.: Toilet Rolls, Bin Bags, Hand Towels etc. Check the audit trail.

  3. Waste Management: Should be split into four categories: Food waste 15%, Recyclables 55%, General waste 25% and IT waste 5%. Ensure waste carriers use the closest waste recycling facilities. You may have to use several carriers to achieve this result. Check the Audit Trail. Percentages as given as an approximate for office use, other business will differ from the above percentages.

  4. Transport: Three categories: Waste, Consumables and Contract Cleaning. Ensure you use the most fuel-efficient, low carbon transport. E.g. LPG, Bio fuels, Electric, Low carbon fuels. A good guide for cars, no or low road fund licences. Vans, Trucks, LPG, Bio-fuels.

  5. Labour: Most people in the cleaning industry use public transport. Make sure that the cleaning contractor uses eco-friendly vehicles.
